You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. (John 15:15-16)
A Prayer Poem by Sister Juliemarie McDonald, SND, for the
Sixth Sunday of Easter, Cycle B
May 13, 2012
Regal, chosen by Christ,
Each one of us,
Likened to a Temple, filled with the King’s glory!
A cup,
Thirsting to be filled with friendship with the Divine.
I am empty until I am filled and energized with the love of God.
Only then can I
Nourish others, who also hunger and thirst for the living God.
Spread your spiritual wings, like a butterfly, to soak up the “Son’s” energy.
Hallow a space, hollow out a time, hammer in some boundaries.
Isolate yourself on a self-made mountain top.
Plead not for presents of power and prestige, but for the regal relationship
with God for others.
For Reflection and Sharing:
- What does having a friendship with God mean to you?
- How are you enriched by your friends?
- How do you enrich them?

Thank you for confirming my thoughts about turning one of the rooms in my home into a “prayer room”. I will do it!
Dear Juliemarie;
Many thanks for your Prayer Poems!! They are full of so much wisdom.
Love Anitra
Hi Sr Julie, thank you for these beautiful words of wisdom!!! Your eloquence floods my soul and touches my heart!!!
Val, keep it simple. Less clutter, the clearer your prayer focus will be. Glad the poem got to your heart and will.
Anitra, I do pray to Lady Wisdom and the Holy Spirit very much as I reflect upon the Word of God. I am sure in my heart that these two people are very much of the inspiration I receive.
Gia, may it also reach deep into God’s will and move you to any action he calls you, too.
