Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time—Cycle B
September 16, 2012

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
(Mark 8:34b)

Discipleship—Daily Dying

Spent as spilt water,
I hang upon my daily cross
Mouth gaped,
Parched throat, parched tongue I cried,
“O God, do not forsake me.”

Like Christ, I commend my spirit,
My old-self—selfish and sinful.

Take, Lord, receive the old me,
And in my daily dying
Rebirth me to new life,
Freed again for new dyings and new rebirths
Until refreshed be my heart eternally.

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. What will it take to face the challenges of the daily cross that Christ may send you?
  2. Why does Jesus speak so strongly to Peter?
  3. Who is Jesus Christ for people of this century?
  4. What do most of your friends think?
  5. Finally, who is Jesus Christ for you?
