Do I Know You?

in Ordinary Time

“Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know?
Do we not know his father and mother?” (John 6:42a)

Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time—Cycle B
August 12, 2012

Amazement rides a slippery slope when bumping into a
messenger of God.
Familiarity seems to create little hope for friends who:
foibles and failures, or
extraordinary gifts and graces.
Somehow familiarity of a person or a place
turns into losing face or falling into disgrace.

It’s human, you know when seen with flesh eyes
instead of the fresh ideas of the Spirit.
Allow the anointed messenger to speak God’s word,
untamed and convicting.

Lord, may I be humble and open enough
to be transformed and
to find freedom in familiarity.

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. Why do we sometimes find ourselves discounting or
    tearing down the messenger?
  2. Think of a truth Jesus taught that you didn’t want
to hear? Why your deaf ears? In the end what did you do?
  3. When did someone tear you down because of your
message? How did you feel? How did you respond?
