He Asks. We Answer.

“You are witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:48)

A Prayer Poem by Sister Juliemarie McDonald, SND
for the Third Sunday of Easter, Cycle B
April 22, 2012

Emmaus disciples returned to Jerusalem
troubled,
startled and
terrified.

In the midst of the upper room Jesus stood.
“Peace be with you.”(Luke 24:36b)
Emmaus disciples became
enlightened,
incredulously joyful and
amazed!

Jesus “opened their minds to understand
the Scriptures.”(Luke 24:45)
“You are witnesses of these things.”(Luke 24:48)
Then Jesus vanished.

The Scriptures are proclaimed each Sunday
to Christian disciples.
We, too, are witnesses of the Paschal Mystery.
Are we convinced the Lord calls us to be witness to him?

He asks. We answer.
What is our answer:
Yes, no, or later, Lord?

 For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. Why was Thomas unable to believe the Emmaus witnesses?
  2. Why is it important to “walk the talk” if you are to be believed?
  3. How will people react to your witnessing if it is not “gentle and respectful?

Gia, if Jesus were responding to you, he would say, “Do not be afraid!”
Faith is a tough walk, not a walk in the park. Jesus would also say in the Easter time, “Peace be to you.”

Are you referring to Notre Dame College? Were you a student then?
I am glad the poems are meaningful to you. Thank you. Were you the secretary?
