Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time—Cycle B
September 30, 2012

“Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.”
(Mark 9:38)

The Mind of the Teacher

“Do not prevent him…”
(Mark 9:38a)

How do those four words unlock the mind of the teacher, Jesus?
What’s in the file folders of the “mind-cabinet” of truth personified?

File A – Awareness of the goodness in others. If they are not against
you, they are for you.

File B – Be loyal to others, yet open to another’s ideas.

File C – Christ’s way will entail costs and crosses.

File D – Danger lurks in scandal, especially scandalizing children.

File E – Envy and jealousy are not the way of the Lord.

The A,B,C’s of putting on the mind of Christ is a daily task of Christians.
Jesus taught not only with his words, but true to the adage, his actions spoke louder!

What thoughts fill your file folders?

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. In what way is tolerance a virtue?
  2. What causes jealousy and envy?
  3. Why is trafficking such a scandalous action?
  4. What are some kindnesses we perform as loyal acts to a friend?
  5. How does loyalty to Church officials clash with our own spirit of independence?
  6. How do we reconcile the two?
