First Sunday of Advent–Cycle A
December 1, 2013
“You must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
(Matthew 24:44)
Wait—Watch—Wonder
For what do you wait?
For what do you look as you wait and wonder?
As you ponder these questions
…Be aware,
…Be alert,
…Be awake.
There is a longing as you wait for:
…peace,
…a loved one to return home,
…solutions to injustices in the world.
What finally awakes you?
…Disaster,
…Death,
…Hunger,
…Beauty.
Perhaps in your wondering you find comfort in the past.
Perhaps you wander around in and worry about the future.
Are you missing the awesomeness of the present?
This Advent what hidden presence of an already present God will we find as:
…Wait,
…Watch,
…Wonder?
For Reflection and Sharing:
- Every year in Advent you wait. What are you waiting for this Advent?
- For what are you longing?
- What finally awakens you?
- Why do we miss so often the presence of God in the present?
- When will we stop longing for gifts not good for us?
- Where can we find the truth for which we are really longing?
