“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always.”
(John 15:16)

Pentecost Advocate

Promised Advocate descend from heaven like flames of fire.
Enter our hearts and set them ablaze.
Never again will you leave us orphaned.
Tell us what our mission is to be.
Comfort and
Overshadow us with the wings of white dove.
Shelter us from every evil,
Then empower us with your breath that breathes new life in those we meet.

Advance us as your God-like army.
Divide our tongues of fire; send us to every nation.
Victory will be ours as we
Overcome evil with faith, hope, and charity.
Come all you Christian soldiers fight for causes which will renew the world.
Advocate for justice, peace, equal rights, love not war.
Eagerly, standing in solidarity, we praise and thank you for setting us on fire for God, who lives, and loves and has his being in each one, as flame-throwers for the Father. Amen.

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. After the Ascension, why were the disciples of Jesus fearful?
  2. How did Jesus keep his promise of sending an advocate?
  3. Share with others a time when the Holy Spirit was an advocate for you.
  4. The Spirit did not come as one big flash of light. What significance is there in coming as divided tongues settling over each one’s head?
  5. What are some of the works of the Holy Spirit?
  6. What special gift do you think the Spirit has bestowed upon you?
  7. How can you be Christ’s Advocate in today’s world?
