Keepers of Promises

“I shall raise him on the last day.”
(John 6:40b)

Keepers of Promises

“I promise,” is often said, yet not always kept.
Do I keep the promises I make?
“Well, not all the time; you see sometimes I forget.”

This is not so with God, the Father, or with God’s Son, Jesus.
They are the Keepers of Promises.

“I will not reject anyone who comes to me.” (John 6:37b)
With our God, there are no rejects; all are welcome.
“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.” (John 6:40)
The only condition asked of us is that we believe in Jesus.
This belief promises to give us the experience of resurrection.

If we keep our promise, we shall not fear death, but welcome it.
Never forget to keep this promise.

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. When we commemorate all the faithful departed, why do some people call them poor souls?
  2. Why do people make promises?
  3. Why do people break promises?
  4. How well do we keep the promises we make?
  5. After reflecting on John 6:37-40, what discovery do you make about God and his Son?
  6. What are some traditional ways we can pray for our faithful departed souls?
  7. Who might be some of the “rejects,” God would never reject?

Dear Sister Juliemarie,
Thank you for your inspiring prayer poems.
The poor souls in purgatory are remembered at my daily stations of the cross.
May our Angels and Friends in heaven help us to receive strength to conquer our emotions.
Love and prayers always
