“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”
(John 14:18)

Temples of the Holy Spirit

How many orphans do you know?
Actually, the answer should be none.
God, keeper of promises, will not leave us orphans.
He will send us a helper, an Advocate.

Advocate: advisor, instructor, mentor, consultant,
The helper who:

    1. Directs us,
    2. Moves us,
    3. Urges us in the right direction.

We, the baptized and confirmed, believe in this Holy Spirit.
Our gospel today is reminding, awakening, renewing us to this great privilege.
Many have advocacy as a job, helping others with earthly matters.
The Holy Spirit works in the temples of your hearts in the spiritual realm.

Sometimes, we, without knowing it, are gifted to be the physical presence,
while the Holy Spirit leads from a spiritual realm.
Each has been gifted with a specialty to be a helper to others on this earth.
Be aware and listen.
The whispered voice of the Spirit may be calling you as a spiritual advocate for someone.

There are many who need spiritual direction and guidance and maybe need that little push.
Listen with care and be compassionate and alert to the Holy Spirit.
Today is the day to renew yourselves, to remind yourselves of the great privilege it is to
partner with the Holy Spirit, who will not leave us orphans.

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. What does it mean to you to be a partner with the Holy Spirit?
  2. What do you need most to be this partner?
  3. What special gift do you have that you can give to other orphans of our day?
  4. Why does it seem impossible for us to be such an advocate?
  5. When will I set a time this week to pray to and listen to the Holy Spirit?
  6. Which friends of mine could I ask about my giftedness in their eyes?
