Dying Daily

in Lent

Fifth Sunday of Lent–Cycle B
March 22, 2015

“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.”
(John 12:25)

Dying Daily

Grain of wheat, Jesus calls me to be.
Ready to die daily that I might live
As his disciple.
I
Now must make a choice.

O, Lord, give me humility, and deepen my
Faith, hope and charity and grant me a contrite heart.

Wake me with your Word of eternal life.
Here “I place before you—life or death.”
Example you were—choosing death that
All might live!
Thank you, Jesus for dying that I may have new life.
May I be a “willing seed,” dying daily,
So others may find life in you. Amen.

For Reflection and Sharing:

“Is being fruitful more important than being safe…or comfortable…or in control?”
(Dr. M. D’Ambrosio)

  1. Will I choose life or death?
  2. In what ways this Lenten season were you called to lose your life?
  3. Take each of the words: safe, in control, comfortable and ponder. Which of these words do you need to look into and let it die?
  4. How is Jesus inviting you to be an agent of change in yourself and in your neighbors?
  5. Those who like symbolism and action, find a planter, some dirt and a packet of seeds. Plant them and pray that all might live and bear fruit.

Dying to self everyday. Simple. Difficult.

Val dear, tell me about it! I find much more difficult than simple, especially as I get older. Your Auntie Jm
