“Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”  (Lk 21:36)

Hopeful Waiting With Mary

Why do we hope when events in our journey seem so hopeless?

St. Paul reminds us, “We are saved by hope.”

We have Faith in God.

We have Charity in God, knowing his goodness.

We have Hope in hopeless cases.

When did Mary need to hope?

  • Census Edict,
  • No room in the Inn,
  • No crib, only a manger,
  • Flight into Egypt,
  • Loss of Jesus in the Temple.

In all these seemingly hopeless cases, Mary had to hope.

Mary becomes our model in our times and in our places.

  • War
  • Famine
  • Homelessness
  • Terrorism
  • Injustices

Once more in seemingly hopeless cases, Mary is our Model.

Perhaps during Advent this year we can pray that Mary intercede for us.

  • Ask for a gift of hope like hers.
  • Ask for the grace to never despair.
  • Ask that our Advent waiting may be filled with hope.

Lord, we believe, hope and love you. May our hope in your Divine Providence be strong with fortitude for our journey to the Christmas crib. Prince of Peace, grant each of us peace of mind and heart. Amen

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. What are traces of hope in these perilous times?
  2. What has helped us in times of change and facing the unknown?
  3. What makes you think we might be in the end times?
  4. When is the last time you made room for hope?
  5. How do the goals we set interfere with our hope?
  6. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being the lowest and 10 the highest) how hopeful are you?
  7. What else do you personally need to ask of the Lord?
