“…they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.”

(Lk 2:39b-40)

Lost Children

Joseph,

  • Protector and Provider of Mary and Jesus,
  • Teacher of a trade for Jesus,
  • Man of prayer,
  • Righteous man.

Mary,

  • Mother of God,
  • Virgin most pure,
  • Fiat, God’s will,
  • First teacher of the God man.

Jesus,

  • Son of God,
  • Babe of Bethlehem,
  • King of Kings,
  • Wisdom of the Father.

Mary and Joseph, holiest of families, teach us parents and guide us as we raise our children from childhood to adulthood. Joseph, be our protector and provider. Mary help us to teach our children as you taught Jesus. Give the run-a-ways safe passage to their homes once more. Give us the same relief you and Joseph felt when your lost Jesus was found. May our children live happily in a peaceful home filled with love. Please, grace us with the wisdom needed to make right decisions and to learn to let go when it is time for them to make their own homes filled with peace and love. Amen

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. What did Mary and Joseph do to make their home peaceful and loving?
  2. What did you think of the way Jesus acted to create such turmoil in the hearts of Mary and Joseph?
  3. How can you relate to this story of the lost Jesus?
  4. What are some of the ways, besides running away, which cause lost children?
  5. When do you feel you have a true relationship with your children?
  6. How is each family member growing in age, grace, and wisdom?
  7. What means will you use to activate grace and wisdom in your family?
