in Ordinary Time

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
January 18, 2015

“Come and you will see.”
(John 1:38b)

Dear Friends,
You are cordially invited to attend the King’s Banquet.
Christ the King

Hear ye, hear ye,
You are invited.
Please respond.

How many times the King has sent this invitation to you
in surprises and disguises!

Which R.S.V.P. belongs to you?

Sorry, I bought tickets for the Rose Bowl.
Sorry, my calendar is full.
Sorry, I’m afraid to drive in this awful weather.
Sorry, I have guests coming over on this date.
Sorry, I am in the process of divorce and too frazzled.
Sorry, my wardrobe isn’t ready for a banquet.
Sorry, sorry, sorry.

When will you have the time?
Time, you know, waits for no one.
This may be your last chance time to “Come and you will see.”

Will you be the disciple the King wants in his company?
Join the joyous crowd who come with rings on their fingers and bells on their toes!
Perhaps you would like to make this your 2015 New Year’s resolution.

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. How has Jesus surprised you in joy or in sorrow the past month?
  2. Who came to you in disguise looking for comfort?
  3. What kind of excuses have you given the King, who seeks your company?
  4. What kind of thoughts run through your mind when someone you know dies unexpectedly?
  5. Why is it important to accept Jesus’ invitation with joy?
  6. Would this be a good resolution for you in this New Year or will you wait for another year?
