“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone.”
(Matthew 18:15)

Taking the Heat

Persecution and
Endurance
Require the Spirit’s gifts of courage and
fortitude.
Suffering and being persecuted is not
Easy. “Taking the heat” makes for
martyrdom.
Christ calls us to this challenging blessedness.
Unlike the early martyrs who gave their lives
for their faith,
Today “white martyrdom” calls to us daily
Each time slanderers, liars, con artists, racists
and all the other modern-day persecutors
Dig up dirt, spread untrue rumors and mock
our sacred beliefs and values.

Happy are those followers of Christ, who have heard it said:

“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you and pray for those who persecute you…” (Matthew 5:44)

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. What is my responsibility for the actions of others, who cause hurt and injustice?
  2. What would you like to accept in yourself?
  3. Why forgiveness is an important part of love?
  4. What should you do if others take offense at your suggestions?
  5. What is the best way to act when someone hurts you?
  6. Think of someone who needs to hear your, “I’m sorry.”
  7. Why are good listening skills necessary during hurtful times?

I mentor a teenage girl under the Juvenile Detention Program. I will share this message with her.
