Bread Baskets

in Ordinary Time

While they were eating he took bread, said the blessing, broke it,gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.”(Mark 14:22)

Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, Cycle B
June 3, 2018

We walk past the bread aisle of the grocery store
and see selections galore: rye, wheat and gluten free;
enough to feed you and me, but not all those who hunger.

“He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you
with manna, a food unknown to you and your fathers, in order to show
you that not by bread alone does man live…” (Dt 8:3a)

What other way can you refresh the hungers of today’s starving?
Give them the
Bread of God’s words,
Bread of charity,
Bread of justice.

Fill them with the
Bread of prayer,
Bread of tears and consolation,
Bread of forgiveness.

O, Christ, bread come down from heaven,
May we be “bread baskets” overflowing with a manna unknown. Amen.

For Reflection and Sharing:

1. When did you receive First Communion? When was the last date you celebrated this day of happy remembrance?
2. How have you been a breadbasket for others?
3. Why is there still hunger in our own countries?
