Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time–Cycle B

August 5, 2018

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”

(John 6:35)

Human Hungers

“I am the bread of life.” (John 6:48)

Human hungers include the whole body, mind and spirit.

For what does Our Body hunger?

  • Food
  • Shelter
  • Rest
  • Exercise

“Do not dwell in the past; do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”

– Buddha

Our Mind

  • Clarity
  • Understanding
  • Knowledge
  • Wisdom

The presence of the Holy Spirit is the keystone of all our hopes.

– John Nelson Darby

Our Spirit

  • Transformation
  • Unity In community
  • Holiness
  • Enlightenment
  • Guidance
  • Healing

God, too, hungers. God wants us to pine for him. He wants our whole-hearted love. He is longing for you to come back to your homeland. He wants to be his beloved. Sometimes I imagine him singing, “Take me, I’m yours if you’ll take me.”

For Reflection and Sharing:

  1. Why do you follow God?
  2. How do you hunger for God?
  3. What is your daily spiritual diet?
  4. How does God hunger for you?
  5. How do you prepare for Eucharist? How long and what is your Thanksgiving like?
  6. How would you explain the fact that you, too, are bread for the hungry?
